On the morning of Monday 28th July 2008, the Pavilion on the Grand Pier at Weston super Mare was completely destroyed in a huge blaze. Fortunately, large parts of the pier are undamaged and the underlying structure appears to be intact. While the fire is a major blow, particularly at this time of the year, there is every hope that the Grand Pier will again be open for business soon and in due time a new Pavilion built.
The original Pavilion burned down in 1930 and was replaced by somethign bigger and better.
